About
How It All Began
Redemption’s History was born during a date night over 20 years ago. I asked Melanie (my wife) why she hardly ever reads her Bible, and in the rare moments when she did, it was only ever Psalms or Proverbs. Her answer was one that so many people can relate to on a personal level: “I don’t understand anything I’m reading when I read the Bible.”
In response to Melanie’s honest answer, Redemption’s History began to take shape. For the next 18 weeks of date nights, I would give her a section of the Bible to read and think through. On the following date night, we would take time to discuss it, and I would explain what was being said in that part of the Bible and why it was being said.
We started in Genesis and worked our way through the entire Bible, focusing specifically on “the story of the Bible” (the meta-narrative) and the major parts that make that story clear.
When we finally finished our epic run of 18 super romantic and dreamy date nights, the results were undeniable.
Melanie shocked herself with her ability to understand what she was reading! She could open her Bible to any spot and understand what it was saying and why it was saying it.
I kept all the notes from each week and, not long after, went through the same process again with my brother—same incredible results! Eventually, I turned it into a course and began teaching it in our full-time internship, our training center, churches, camps, conferences, and even internationally at Bible schools.
